Senior Gaelic Fall To St Aidan’s

Our Senior Gaelic team lost out by 1-12 to 0-11 against Scoil Aodhain, Whitehall in the Top Oil Leinster Schools Senior Football A Championship Round 1 on Friday November 25.

In a cagey opening quarter, where Cian Costigan had us 0-2 to 0-1 to the good, points from Shane Doyle, Mark McDermott, Costigan and Kevin Byrne saw us roar ahead 0-6 to 0-2. However, our Dublin visitors finished with two points of their own to leave them behind 0-6 0-4 at the break.

The 2nd half started well with Jordan McGrath popping up for an early score, before David Sutton & Adam Donoghue produced great blocks to deny the Aidan’s forwards.  Having survived that scare, Costigan again & Brian McDonnell were to put us back ahead by three 0-9 to 0-6.

But, a couple of miscues in front of goal, allowed Aidan’s off the hook and it was they who hit three points in two minutes to level the game, before going ahead for the first time with eight minutes remaining.  A stoppage in play curtailed Patrician opportunities and when Aidan’s went two up heading into injury-time, we needed a goal to win.  However, the goal came at the other end as Aidan’s wrapped the game up and emerged victorious by 1-12 to 0-11.

Commiserations to Mr Cunnane, Mr Durkan and Philie Wolfe (coach) for the effort made with the team.  The lads still have a South Leinster League title to defend.  They will play St Peter’s (Wexford) in the final in the near future.
