It wasn’t to be our day in the Anne McInerney Cup Final on Thursday March 8, when a strong first half from St Mel’s ensured we were always chasing the game and they went onto win by 20-12.
Going in 10-0 down at half-time, we regrouped well & when Michael Somers crossed the whitewash, followed by Oisin Sherlock’s conversion, it was game on. However, Mel’s sucker-punched us with a try a few minutes later to restore a 15-7 gap.
We pushed on & it led to a mistake, which the Longford school punished. But, credit to the lads, they drove on again to see Somers cross the line again, with time almost up to add a little to the scoreboard.
Commiserations to the Seniors on what was a great year. Reaching both the Senior & Junior Development Cup finals (winning the Junior) puts Rugby in a healthy position within the school.
