U15’s Show Battling Qualities in Leinster Final Loss

On Friday April 20, our U15 Soccer team were slightly unlucky in their 4-3 defeat to Chanel College, Coolock in the Leinster Minor Cup Final.

Having taken the game to their Dublin opponents in the opening quarter, Nathan Anyanwu should have converted when through on their keeper, however Chanel came storming back to lead 2-0 at the break.

Straight from the tip-off, they extended their lead & with heads dropping we conceded a fourth.

However, to their credit our lads came roaring back & having been a little unlucky with a chance moments earlier, sub Ben Sinnott was on the end of a move to pull a goal back with 15 minutes remaining.  To the crowd, it looked like mere consolation, but with Sean Donohoe having an inspired game in the middle, we drove on.

A lovely drag back by Anyanwu freed him into the box and he fired home to the keeper’s near post.  Minutes later, he converted a penalty after Adam Kavanagh was fouled to leave it 4-3 with time running out.  A late free saw the team pile forward, but Dara Oke saw his header go over.  The whistle blew seconds later & Chanel to their credit claimed the title.

Commiserations to Mr Tuite, Ms O’Leary and the team, but credit to them for their battling qualities.
