NEWBRIDGE student Eoin O'Callaghan continued a proud tradition for his school when he achieved the highest Leaving Cert. mark in the country for technical drawing.Eoin, from The Village, Newbridge was presented with a gold medal for his achievement by Taoiscach Bertie Ahern at a technology teachers' conference. The 18-year-old is the second student in four years from the Patrician Secondary School to attain the top grade in the country. try. In 1997 number cruncher"Colin Hickey was first in Ireland in Higher Level Maths with anA 1 grade.

Both high achievers reached their full potential thanks in no small way to teacher Pat O'Leary     who described Eoin's achievement as "just reward for hard work and an excellent problem solving ability."

No less than eleven students from the same class achieved A grades in technical drawing, reflecting the time and effort put in by the drawing teachers at the school.

Pat's colleagues in the drawing department are Larry Curtin, Robert Roche, Pat Maloney and Sharon Mitchell. The high academic standards were maintained by the higher level maths class where 14 students achieved A grades.

Eoin scored more than 95 per cent in his higher level technical drawing paper and is now studying Mathematical Applications at Dublin City University.
