St Mary’s Pro Cathedral 23rd November 2008
Congratulations to all involved in last Sundays Mass in St. Mary’s Pro Cathedral. Over fifty students travelled by bus to the Cathedral on Sunday 23rd of November with choir directors Mr. Meredith and Ms. Nolan. Mr. O’Reilly and Ms. Kennedy read the readings for the day. The choir led fully by student soloists sang throughout the Mass; particularly praise was given to the depth of singing from the choir whose enthusiasm and skill was evident during the Mass. A choir is only as strong as the contribution made by every individual member, and our choir’s performance was faultless. Twelve soloists from first to sixth year were used and their hard work and attention to detail was particularly apparent on the day. The staff of the Pro Cathedral also commented on the prayerful atmosphere and excellent behaviour of the students throughout the Mass. Thanks particularly to the staff of the Pro Cathedral, particularly choral director Sharon Lyons and the sacristan who helped us a great deal on the day and ensured that all our requests were ably answered. Thanks also to the many teachers and parents who supported the choir on the day by attending the Mass and giving praise and encouragement to the students involved. The choir is exceptionally proud to be fully representative of the school, with students from all year groups and programmes involved. The work and professionalism of the musicians who formed our school band was key to the success of the choir’s performance, we would like to thank particularly the contribution made by our bandleader and Arts Captain Conor Conroy. Mr. Meredith and Ms. Nolan would like to thank all the students and staff involved in the Mass for all their hard work and commitment throughout the six weeks of preparation, particularly for giving so much of their free time to rehearse. Read students accounts of the trip soon, with pictures to follow!
