Hurling at Patrician Secondary School has gone from strength to strength over the last number of years. It brings together so many talented and hard-working individuals from various clubs and gives them the opportunity to hurl in a competitive group. We in the school work with our feeder clubs to encourage, practice and develop all our student’s skills.
Hurling is open to all students from 1st to 6th year and we encourage as many students to attend training. We enter first year, second year, junior and senior competitions each year.
Massive thanks to all our sponsors over the last number of years.
Information about training can be found on our GAA noticeboard in the front hall of our school.
First Year Hurling
This year's hurling team has been amazing, we have had a great chance to grow and get to know each other. The training sessions on Wednesday morning have been so much fun.
Before Christmas we had the chance to play a blitz against other Kildare teams in Manguard Park. Our first match against Avondale CC was tough and a great warm up for next year's competitions. Thank you to our trainers Mr. Doyle and Ms. Bracken, we can't wait for next year.
Junior Hurling
The junior hurling team started their season with a win in the first group game against Tullamore College. They racked up a huge score to win 3-17 to 2-3. This victory gave the team confidence going forward. They then backed up their performance in the first group match with a comfortable win in their second group game against Clonaslee College, with a final score of 1-21 to 1-10.
oming out of the group stage unbeaten, the junior team then faced St. Ciaran’s, Kells in the semi-final. The lads put in another strong performance at home in College Park to take the win with a scoreline of 2-16 to 0-8, advancing them to the final.
After a slow start in the final against Castlepollard CC, the lads were seven points behind at halftime, leaving a lot of work to be done in the second half. They fought back to get level with only minutes left in the match. Unfortunately, Castlepollard went ahead again with very little time remaining. The game ended 3-9 to 3-8, with our lads narrowly missing out on the title.
Overall, it was an excellent year for the junior hurlers, who are going from strength to strength. It is great to see this panel continuing to grow and promote hurling within our school.
Huge thanks to Mr. Brennan and Mr. Scallan for the effort they put in over the year for our junior hurlers.
